The company
Founded in 1936 as a manufacturing company for industrial metal goods, DOM Sicherheitstechnik is now one of the world's leading manufacturers of innovative locking technology and digital access systems. The product range extends from practical security solutions for single-family homes to state-of-the-art digital access control systems for large properties.
Like many manufacturers, DOM also saw a trade fair as the perfect place to present its latest products in an appealing way.
But what if there were no more trade fairs? Until three years ago, this scenario did not play a role in the planning of most companies.
But with the onset of the pandemic in 2020, everything changed.
The challenge
Suddenly, as a company, you are faced with previously unknown challenges – and this is where the wheat is separated from the chaff.
While many bury their heads in the sand and accept the situation as a given, innovative companies are looking for solutions to continue to secure a competitive advantage.
This is how the collaboration between DOM Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. and Vuframe® came about at the end of 2020.
The initial question was how to continue to present their own products to dealers and potential customers despite contact restrictions and canceled trade shows?
It quickly became clear that an innovative solution was needed that would secure the company's market positioning as a modern, digital company while also serving as a tool for employee and sales partner retention.
The birth of the Virtual Showroom
In no time at all, Vuframe GmbH created a 3D world based on an existing exhibition stand design, with a variety of hotspots, editable surfaces and product showcases, as well as an intelligent website integration.
This was the birth of the DOM Virtual Showroom.
However, this was only the beginning of digital marketing. After the Virtual Showroom had already made an impression, DOM wanted to go one step further and offer customers and dealers a new user experience.
DOM Playground in VR
To achieve this goal, Vuframe® developed the DOM-Playground. With this interactive VR experience, made possible by the use of virtual reality glasses, the various locking systems can now be experienced. This way, the different door handles and locking cylinders can be picked up using the VR controller and inserted into the showcases and doors in any constellation.
The room, with its basketball game, the pyramid of dice and the interactive locker system, which can be opened, invites you to explore the virtual world.
The new virtual world of experience was used for the first time on “Girls and Boys Day”. Here, the committed interns were able to test the DOM VR application extensively and thus develop a better understanding of the products directly. The unanimous conclusion: “It's fun 👍”.
The solution
The following solutions are now available for DOM:
Professional Studio
Step-Uploader for the independent creation of SmartVu's
Editor for managing the mobile showroom
Virtual Reality / VR app (for VR glasses Oculus / Meta Quest 2)
Selection, viewing and interaction with different locking systems, as well as additional playful elements in a specially developed “playground”
The dealer network is thrilled
On the occasion of the company's 85th anniversary, DOM organized the “DOM - Schlosstage”, a roadshow with five stops at selected castles throughout Germany. In this extraordinary atmosphere, the security technology manufacturer presented new system solutions in the fields of mechanics, electronics and smart homes. During this event, the new VR solution was also presented to the dealer network for the first time, and was very well received.
With the help of this solution, DOM is not only simplifying the way it presents its products. The company is also becoming less dependent on external factors, ensuring a better understanding of its products while reducing its environmental footprint, as it no longer needs to produce unnecessary prototypes and demonstration models.
